Prince William urges people to check in on those who may be struggling

Prince William has encouraged people to reach out to someone they are worried about, highlighting the importance of listening and making time for a conversation.

Marking World Mental Health Day on 10 October 2026, he described a simple conversation as a place where “hope begins”. His message emphasised that we cannot always see the difficulties someone is carrying.

The comments came a year after The Royal Foundation launched its National Suicide Prevention Network. In an anniversary update, the Foundation reported that funding through the network had helped its partners support more than 500 people across the UK.

Making the conversation possible

For HUMEN, the message connects with a central purpose of our work: challenging the silence around men’s mental health.

A public conversation can bring attention to the issue. The next step is making that conversation possible between friends, family members and colleagues.

That might begin with noticing someone has become quieter, asking how things have been or making time to listen without immediately offering solutions.

Talking is one part of support. Someone may also need professional help, practical assistance or urgent care. Awareness needs to be accompanied by clear information about where to turn.

HUMEN’s resources explain signs to look out for, ways to start a conversation and routes into support.
