When men talk about why they didn’t reach out sooner, the reasons are remarkably consistent. These are the three we hear most, and what they tell us about how support needs to be designed.
1. “I didn’t know what I’d say”
The idea that you need a clear account of what is wrong before you can ask for help is the single biggest barrier we hear. It is why the first step through HUMEN is deliberately simple: no form that asks you to explain yourself.
2. “I assumed it would cost money I don’t have”
Cost is the second barrier, and the most straightforward to remove. HUMEN Space 1:1 Therapy is free to the men who use it.
3. “I thought it was for people worse off than me”
Men consistently rank their own situation as not serious enough. This is exactly the window HUMEN exists for. Support before crisis is support for men who think they are fine.
